Golden Cocker Retriever or Sport Retriever

Here you will find out about the Golden Cocker Retriever or Sport Retriever.

This is a hybrid dog made up of a cocker spaniel and golden retriever.

Country of Origin: The Golden Cocker Retriever, also known as the Sport Retriever, is a hybrid dog made up of the Golden Retriever and the Cocker Spaniel. This breed originated in the United States.

Size: The Golden Cocker Retriever stands from 14 to 17 inches tall and can weigh anywhere between 25-45 pounds. Males being the bigger size.

Coat: The Golden Cocker Retriever is considered a long-haired breed but they do shed less than the average Golden Retriever. The most prominent color is gold, but the Golden Cocker Retriever can come in all colors and patterns, due to the coloring of the cocker spaniel.

Character: The Golden Cocker Retriever loves water and to play fetch. They are playful outdoors and calm while inside. This breed is very gentle and loving family dogs. They can be trained to hut upland birds and/or water fowl.

Temperament: The Golden Cocker Retriever is a soft-tempered breed. This is a people-oriented breed and form strong bonds with their owners.

Care: The Golden Cocker Retriever should be brushed on a weekly basis and bathed when needed. Their ears can be trimmed twice a year to avoid matting.

Training: The Golden Cocker Retriever has a strong desire to please and are not difficult to train. They respond best to a gentle, but firm trainer. Harsh commands should be avoided as this breed is best motivated by praise, toys and treats.

Activity: The Golden Cocker Retriever loves to play and should be exercised on a daily basis. This breed is happiest when playing fetch and/or swimming but will do just as well with a long walk.

They look a lot like a Golden Retriever, but are much smaller, maturing mostly from 14 to 17 inches tall, and normally 25 to 45 lbs. Sport Retrievers are super easy to train, they pick up on things easily since they are so smart and eager to please that they tend to train without any real training. They love everybody, and are a super family dog! They typically don't "run off", because they prefer to stay close to their family or owner. Super sweet, gentle and calm very quickly, they are great with kids, and older people, they also blend well with other pets. Their medium size works well as a house dog or apartments, but are still big enough to handle children and not break. Their ears are longer and have more hair then a Golden, but are not as long as a Cocker. Pretty faces, with a coat that can be trimmed, or left natural. They have hair between their toes that makes them appear to have hugh paws or fuzzy slippers on. Large, but not too large, soft eyes! They also shed less then a golden retriever, since they are half cocker, and cockers do not shed like the golden retrievers do.

These super little dogs are becoming a awesome breed, and that is why I use them to make my mini/petit goldendoodles. So my F1 mini/petite goldendoodle are 25% cocker 25% golden and 50% poodle. This also helps to make the puppy healthier, and I can guarantee the size a lot better.
